@Metalsmithsforchange piece honoring Diane Nash

img_7752.png

Diane Nash is known as the fire of the civil rights movement.

This piece reflects the heart she has placed in leading. Her fire, passion, uncompromising devotion to a peaceful solution to any policy made to oppress people of color. The 72 ct petrified palm wood that is shaped and polished on both sides contains a movement reminiscent of fire. The chain is hand forged of 925 silver and the toggle and first chain link are 14 kt gold. The toggle was sawed out to resemble licks of fire and the change of color depicts the first loop in the chain being on fire. The hope is for all of the links in this chain to burn down and for people of color to lose their oppression from the system.
